Alba Manaj started her first business as Chartered Accountant in her native country Albania in 2000.    80% of the clients were construction companies.

In 2005 she and her family immigrated to Canada

In 2010 she took over the construction business left to her by her husband who had died which she continued for the next several years. During that time she experienced firsthand many of the problems that other construction contractors, investors, and homeowners were faced.

In March 2019 founded Albaslist, a digital marketing site for construction businesses, jobseekers, real estate investors and homeowners.

It was set up to address the many of the issues she and others in this industry faced. Its goal is to:

  • Provide a focused conduit to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of communication among construction contractors, skilled trades and real estate investors/homeowners;
  • Provide a digital Advertising and lead platform to construction contractors;
  • Assist those in the construction industry, especially youth with a comprehensive listing of potential employment opportunities.

Using digital technology to generate leads and connect all parties will result in more effective and efficient information exchange as well as contribute to a cleaner environment through reduced travel.

Albaslist initially started with two employees but now has eight employees.

We currently have over 10,000 listings. Initially many of our clients were smaller firms but now larger firms have recognized the value proposition and have joined the site.

The business serves in Ontario, with a strong presence in the GTA for now.

We are very honored to win CanadianSME National Business Award.

That

The hard work of our diverse team was rewarded, they felt proud to work for Albaslist.

Our IT developer has more trust in us now. He became more motivated to introduce and implement new tools and technologies, that move our business forward in today’s market place.


What piece of advice would you give to entrepreneurs? 

When you work hard, you get rewarded. Moving toward success is not easy, it is associated with uncertainty;                fear that the market may not accept your service, fear of loss. It might be a loss of income, a waste of hard work, and post-traumatic stress.

So starting a new business is a very serious issue. You should be smart to figure out what product or service market will accept. Be humble, honest, polite when offering services.

Quantity comes before quality. Be prepared to do most of the work yourself, and hire employees that can pick up the instructions. It will be a long way to go, until competent salespeople and highly prepared IT developers join us.
